Nutrition in the reproduction of farm animals.

چکیده
There is still uncertainty about the earliest stage of development at which nutrition influences an animal's subsequent ability to achieve its genetic potential for reproduction. Prenatal growth retardation caused by feeding ewes on a ration as low as 0.5 times maintenance during early pregnancy had no subsequent detrimental effect on either the natural or gonadotrophin-stimulated ovulation rate of the progeny, leading Parr et al. (1986) to conclude that the embryonic development of the primordial germ cells in the ovary was not permanently affected by undernutrition. Martin & Crenshaw (1989) cite literature which suggests that low-plane feeding during the period of oogenesis in the pig (40 d post mating to 35 d post partum) may suppress subsequent ovulation rate. Although there is some evidence in their own experimental observations that this is so there are opposing nutritional influences on embryo survival leading to no significant effect on litter

Molecular Markers for Fertility in Farm Animals
A genetic marker is a gene or DNA sequence with known localization on a chromosome. It can be de-scribed as a variation that can be measured or detected by a suitable method, and can be used subsequently to detect the presence of a specific genotype. Such variations occurring at chromosomal or DNA level can serve as genetic markers. The progress in development of molecular markers suggests thei...
متن کاملPharmacological manipulation of the mammalian circadian clock: implications for the control of seasonal reproductive cycles.
Although artificial control of the light cycle can be used to regulate the seasonal reproductive cycle of many animals under laboratory conditions, such regulation is often not possible in a standard agricultural environment. An alternative strategy for regulating the seasonal reproductive cycle of photoperiodic animals is to use drugs that either mimic the effects of light on reproductive func...
متن کاملMicronutrients and reproduction in farm animals.
Reproductive well-being and performance of farm animals is largely dependent on their nutritional status, which is often less than optimum in developing tropical countries. More often than not, they are malnourished, particularly with regards to micronutrients. Evidence was presented to show that because these micronutrients are involved in such functions as intracellular detoxification of free...
متن کاملA novel farm technology to quantify dairy cow cervix morphology: oestrus versus non-oestrus models
The objective was to quantify and compare cow cervical morphology on oestrus vs. non-oestrus daysusing a new farm technology. The cervical tissues were videotaped using a cervixscope involving newcamera equipment in four Holstein cows on multiple oestrus and non-oestrus days to score tissue morphology as altered by oestrus. The non-oestrous days were in diestrus phases. The videotaped records w...
متن کاملBiology and control of reproduction of sturgeons in fish farm
Over the last century the reproduction of sturgeon has been intensively studied par Russian scientists who established a technology for the ranching of alevins which included artificial fertilization of gametes taken from wild broodfish and larvae rearing. More recently, since 1970, major contributions originated from teams in the USA, the EU, Japan and Iran. A rather good knowledge of the repr...
متن کاملMuscle fibre ontogenesis in farm animal species.
In farm animals (bovine, ovine, swine, rabbit and poultry), muscle fibre characteristics play a key role in meat quality. The present review summarises the knowledge on muscle fibre characteristics and ontogenesis in these species. Myofibre ontogenesis begins very early during embryonic life, with the appearance of two or three successive waves of myoblasts which constitute the origin of the di...
